Raising funds for families who have children with medical needs
PO Box 223 Manhattan, IL 60442
Arianna's Wings is a non-profit organization dedicated in loving memory of Arianna Rose West. Our mission is to raise funds for families who have children with medical needs.
Arianna's parents, Jim and Angie West, found out sixteen weeks into their pregnancy that their baby would have a 50% chance of survival after birth due to Angie being diagnosed with low amniotic fluid. A baby inhales and exhales amniotic fluid, which helps with lung development inside the womb.
Arianna's heart and vital organs were perfect, but her lungs were an uncertainty. Twenty four weeks into the pregnancy, Jim and Angie had to make a decision. They chose to continue the pregnancy.
At twenty eight weeks, Angie was admitted to Rush Hospital and was told that Arianna's chance of survival outside of the womb would only be 15%.
On November 12, 2010 at 5:01 a.m., Arianna Rose West was born premature at thirty weeks. She weighed 2lbs. 7oz. and was 15 inches long. She was a beautiful baby girl fighting for her life. Her family was very hopeful.
Things took a turn for the worse thirteen hours into Arianna's life. Her lungs were underdeveloped and delicate. A ventilator punctured her lung causing her body to fill with carbon dioxide. Arianna's family was informed that they had to let their angel baby go.
Arianna had so much love that day. One by one her loved ones had to say goodbye to her. Something no one ever wants or should ever have to say to a child. Arianna passed away in the arms of her parents. The pain of losing a child is a pain like no other.
On May 17, 2012, Jim, Angie and their daughters, Jessica and Kayla received the most wonderful gift from Angie's parents and sisters, "Arianna's Wings".
